How to mark posts as read, one at a time or all at once

Updated October 10, 2026 4 min read

Opening a post marks it as read. To clear a whole feed or folder, select its unread count in your feed list, or right-click it and choose Mark feed as read or Mark folder as read. Below are the steps for the web app, the browser extension and the phone apps.

How do I mark one post as read?

  • Web and extension: open the post, or select the check mark next to it in the list. You can also right-click a post and choose Mark as read or Mark as unread.
  • Keyboard: N or R switches the open post between read and unread. U marks it read and moves on.
  • Reader layout with Expanded posts: posts are marked as read as you scroll past them.
  • iPhone, iPad and Android: swipe left on a post and tap Mark as read, or tap Mark as read/unread at the bottom of an open post. On iPhone and iPad, press and hold a push notification and tap Mark as read.

How do I mark a feed or folder as read?

  • Web and extension: select the unread count next to the feed or folder. Or right-click it and choose Mark feed as read or Mark folder as read.
  • Phone: in the Feeds tab, swipe left on a feed or folder and tap Mark read. Inside a feed or folder, the round check mark button at the bottom marks everything in it as read.

On the web and in the extension, Feeder asks you to confirm when you mark 20 or more posts. To skip the question, turn off Ask before marking many as read in Settings, Advanced.

How do I mark everything as read?

In the web app or extension, select Mark all as read (the check mark in a circle) at the top of the post list or the extension window. Then choose:

  • Mark everything as read, for every unread post in all your feeds.
  • 24 hours, 1 week or 1 month, under Mark as read older than..., to clear only older posts.

Mark all as read in a right-click menu also clears all your feeds, not just the one you clicked. There's no undo. On your phone, the round check mark button at the bottom of the Feeds tab marks everything as read.

Can Feeder mark old posts as read by itself?

Yes. In Settings, Advanced, set Mark posts as read if unread after to 1 day, 7 days, 30 days or 90 days, or Never. Once a day, Feeder marks unread posts older than that as read, going by the date they were published. New accounts start at 90 days, so this is the usual reason old unread posts vanish. In the phone apps, it's Mark old posts as read in the Settings tab.

Can new posts arrive already read?

  • One feed: right-click it, choose Edit feed, and untick Mark new posts as unread on the Settings tab.
  • All feeds: turn off Track unread posts in Settings, Advanced. To track only a few feeds, turn it off, then tick Mark new posts as unread on those feeds.
  • A folder: there's no folder setting, but a rule can do it. Select Rules, New rule, choose Mark as read under What should happen?, pick the folder under Select feeds and select Save rule. Add keywords to mark only matching posts. Rules need Plus ($7.99 a month billed yearly) or Professional.

If all new posts arrive as read and you didn't set this up, check that Track unread posts is on.

Why doesn't the extension's badge match the list?

  • The number on the extension icon counts unread posts in all your feeds. A feed or folder shows only its own posts. The Unread tab in the extension window shows the same total as the badge.
  • The badge updates when the extension gets new counts. If it looks stuck, right-click a feed and select Reload feeds.
  • To hide the number, turn off Show unread count in badge in Settings, Advanced, under Extension.

Common questions

Why do read posts turn unread again?

If Mark updated posts as unread is on for a feed, a post turns unread again when the site changes it. Turn it off in Edit feed. This option is part of Professional.

Can I delete posts I've read?

No, Feeder keeps them, but you don't have to see them. On the web and in the extension, select Unread above the post list (the button with your unread count) to show only posts you haven't read. In the iPhone, iPad and Android apps, open a feed or folder and tap the Unread tab. Read posts stay under All posts.
